'Smart City' to create secretarial jobs

Dr Gonzi said it has been estimated that Smart City, owned by the Dubai-based Tecom Investments, would generate Lm218 million (€507.8 million) a year in the country's GDP and inject Lm50 million (€116.5 million) into the Government's coffers. Dr Gatt stressed that Smart City would be creating jobs across the board - from high-tech posts to gardeners, jobs in catering, as well as secretarial and other services. The minister said that educational institutions were this year training 1,300 new students in ICT-related areas. Last year, 600 youngsters completed courses in IT and this augured that the jobs created in Smart City would be taken up by the Maltese. Smart City Malta chairman Deepak Padmanabhan said that viewing the work at this stage reminded him of the early stages of Dubai's Internet City, which transformed a desert into a place which generates jobs and revenue like no other.
