Doctors' Hospital's top two executives are without a job, while a previously announced $4 million renovation is on hold until the hospital determines its next step.

Chief Executive Officer Keith Cox and Chief Operating Officer Kathryn Merritt were among 24 employees who lost their jobs as part of the specialty hospital's reorganization announced Tuesday.

The job cuts -- which follow the elimination of eight secretarial and department head positions in November -- ranged from housekeeping to nursing and are not expected to affect patient services, according to the consulting firm hired by the hospital to improve operations and financial performance.

And while the hospital's newly appointed president doesn't expect more layoffs, he's not ruling it out either.

"That's still to be determined," said David Holly, who was named president Tuesday.

"As I told the staff, nobody's job can ever be totally secure, including mine. We're in this for the long term. We have made some changes. We're going to have a very solid bottom line and a great future."
