Laboratory Equipment at Ball State University, Indiana has a narrow escape

Thousands of dollars'  worth of lab equipment narrowly missed being severely damaged when a potentially serious leak was discovered at Ball State University, Indiana.

The newly-renovated lab, that contains valuable laboratory equipment, was found with water-damaged ceiling tiles by staff, when they returned to work on a Monday morning. The damage had been caused by a leak that came from a split pipe in the laboratory above. The water had flooded the science lab above, reaching almost an inch deep, and had seeped its way through the ceiling into the laboratory below.

The leak was caused by a ruptured plastic pipe in the laboratory. The University will be testing all of its piping to ensure that this does not happen again.

Staff at the University spent over two hours clearing the water, using wet vacs, pumps and mops. As yet it is not known how much damage in costs the University has incurred.
