US Hospital Laboratory Earns Accreditation

University General Hospital Laboratory has been awarded an accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The CAP accreditation is based on the results of a recent on-site inspection.

We are pleased and proud to join more than 6,000 other CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide, said Kamran Nezami, president and CEO of University General Hospital Systems. The CAP recognition follows a recent string of accomplishments and honors by University General Hospital.

In February, University General Hospital received its Medicare provider number, recognizing the facility as a general acute care hospital, and allowing the hospital to treat and bill for Medicare patients. After conducting two inspections, the Joint Commission Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) declared University General Hospital Accredited for all Service Surveyed without any recommendations for improvement.

Last year, University General Hospital Systems CEO and visionary, Kamran Nezami, was featured in the December 11th online and print versions of Modern Healthcare magazine in an article titled, Betting Big on Doc Ownership.

The hospital system signed a $1 Billion US Dollar agreement on December 1, 2006 with Charlotte, NC-based Alliance Development Group to jointly develop ten physician-owned acute-care hospital facilities across the country.

The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program began in the early 1960s and is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the governments inspection program. During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratories records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine the entire staffs qualifications, the laboratorys equipment, facilities, safety program and record as well as the overall management of the laboratory. This stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for the laboratorys patients.
